The Taylor Family Of Dore.
In the village of Dore the
Local sweet shop was run by
Mrs Taylor and husband Cliff.
The craft of stone masonry has been in the Taylor family since the middle of the nineteenth century.
The first recorded monumental stone mason was Farewell Taylor. Who carried on his trade from his fathers home at Green lane farm (now Gillyfield Farm) opposite the Christchurch Dore.
Many of the tombstones in the local churchyard is inscribed with his initials as shown in the picture.
He also carried out work all over the county of Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
Many more of the Taylor family became stonemason’s, after learning the craft from Farewell.
Including his nephews and brother in laws.
