The craft of stone masonry has been in the Taylor family since the middle of the nineteenth century.The first recorded monumental stone mason was Farewell Taylor. Who carried on his trade from his fathers home at Green lane farm (now Gillyfield Farm) opposite the Christchurch Dore.Many of the tombstones in the local churchyard is inscribed with his initials.He had many apprentices from within the branches of the Taylor family.Farewell also did a lot of work through out the county of Derbyshire and building  a fine and well respected reputation. Farewell died in 1932 but the business carried on by relatives for many years
